Gear Used For Breaking Up & Down: Tony played his Gibson Nighthawk through a Marshall JCM 800 Lead Series amp, with the aid of a Full-Drive II distortion pedal. For "You Have 3 Messages," He played a Casio CTK-411 fed simultaneously through the Marshall amp and a Fender Twin Reverb amp. Devin played his Musicman Axis Sport guitar through a Fender Blues Deluxe amplifier. Dave Rothkopf played his Ernie Ball Musicman fretted 5-string bass through an SWR SM-400S amp with a Bellari LA120 Tube Compressor. Dave played his guitar solos with his Fender Strat Plus. He played the Fender, Tony's Gibson, and Devin's Musicman for rhythm parts. He used Marshall JCM 800 and JCM 900 amps, plus a vintage Fender Twin Reverb amp that has since been dropped and decimated by the ham-handed handlers of the UPS ground forces. Sometimes he stepped on an Ibanez Tube Screamer and a Boss PH-2 Super Phaser. Dave also played a custom modified Yamaha FG-410E steel 6-string acoustic guitar for the intro to "Something You Said." (Tony played it a little bit too, when he wasn't using his Ovation, the guitar only "idiots" use for recording.) John Goodman played his Tama Artstar II drums; a Blake Cooper custom kick drum, Ayotte Keplinger, Tama and Yamaha snares; and Zildjian & UFIP cymbals. He used Evans drumheads and Pro-Mark sticks. Mike DeAngelis played analog synth stuff on a vintage Fender Rhodes Chroma Polaris and a Yamaha CS1X. All vocals were recorded with an Audiotechnica 4033 microphone, through Mackie VLZ pre-mics. |
