The Good are four Chicago
musicians who have been converting midwestern audiences to their
unique brand of heavy
pop since 1993.

THE
GOOD... LIVE ON FEB 5!
Mark your
calendars:
SATURDAY,
FEB 5 - 9pm
THE GOOD return to the stage for one night only
at Martyrs in Chicago. After years of critical
acclaim ("Masterful... I mean absolutely" - WXRT) and
legendary live performances, Tony Rogers, Devin Arkin,
John Scholvin, John Goodman, and Dave Rothkopf rarely
perform together as The Good. But we can now confirm
what will most likely be the only Good show of 2011.
More details to follow... it’s sure to be a night to
remember.

N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago
Admission: $12

THE
GOOD ON ITUNES
After
a long and well-publicized legal battle, the band that
changed everything is finally on iTunes. That’s right,
now you can digitally download all your favorites by
THE GOOD by going to the iTunes music store and typing
in any of these titles:
The
Good – Oft Interred With Their Bones
The Good – Milky White
The Good – Breaking Up & Down
The Good – What Are You Saving It For?
The Good – Big Money Makers 2010
Why
Big Money Makers “2010”? Because it includes two gems
not on the original EP:
1)
an unreleased track called “Wood,” recorded for a never-aired
TV series of the same name, about a film director who
stumbles into the porn business and finds out he’s really
good at it, and
2)
last year’s BRAND NEW Good recording, “Interstellar,”
which, it must be said, sounds as good as anything the
band has ever done.
THE
GOOD ON FACEBOOK
For
years, you've loved The Good. Now you can like them!
Just go here:
Here is some
live footage of the band at last year’s show, performing
a good stretch from Pink Floyd’s "The Wall," and throwing
in a bit of Michael Jackson's "Off The Wall" , just
to show off.
While it's
true that The Good performs only once per year, there
are lots of interesting side projects to choose from:
Tony Rogers
is preparing the release of his second full-length solo
album. In the meantime, you can download his latest
recording, "The Saint Unborn" (tonyrogers.bandcamp.com).
Dave Rothkopf's
band Down The Line (downthelineband.com)
just released their fourth studio album.

TONY
ROGERS: ENCYCLOPEDIA, VOL. 1
January 1,
2005 marks the Crown Books release of band friend and
embarassingly talented writer Amy Krouse Rosenthal's
newest book, "Encyclopedia
of an Ordinary Life." It's a stunningly written
memoir in encyclopeida format, full of thought-provoking
and often hilarious observations about (what else?)
ordinary life. To accompany the relase of the book,
Tony is releasing 3 brand new songs, including the book's
official theme song: "This Is My Story." (You can watch
a video of "This Is My Story" by searching for "Encyclopedia
of an Ordinary Life" at Amazon.com.)
As a perfect
introduction to listeners new to Tony's (and the band's)
music, AND as a double extra secret treat for longtime
Good fans, Jumbo Records is putting out a new CD called
"Tony Rogers: Encyclopedia,
Vol. 1" that features NOT JUST the new Encyclopedia
recordings, but ALSO other previously unreleased Tony
recordings, AND previously unreleased Good recordings,
PLUS Tony's favorite Good AND solo recordings, all on
one massive, totally remastered, 17-song CD that features
a total of SEVEN NEVER-BEFORE-HEARD TRACKS.
What would
you expect to pay? Don't even tell us, you'll embarass
yourself. Get the CD now
for the low, low price of $12.00 and then run out to
buy your copy of the "Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life"
book, or just buy it through the official
website, which is a lot easier and more entertaining,
to be frank.
POP
PSYCHOLOGY
Girl trouble?
Boy trouble? No trouble!
If you've
managed to miss Tony Rogers in all five smash runs of
his hit show - the completely original, utterly depressing,
and entirely uplifting modern romantic one-man relationship
seminar musical, "Pop Psychology" - or if you need to
share the experience with as-yet-uninitiated friends,
spouses, or illicit sex partners, then you need to pay
a visit to PopPsychology.com. The show WXRT calls "EXTRAORDINARY"
is currently in pre-production for a giant run somewhere
in North America, we can't tell you yet. Dubbed "CABARET
SHOW OF THE YEAR (2002) by Chicago Arts & Entertainment,
"Pop Psychology" is 100 minutes (or more) of singalong
therapy for lovers and loners, directed by Michael Starcevich
and performed by "Doctor" Tony, with piano massage by
Steve Kouba.
Always available
is the companion "Pop Psychology" soundtrack CD, dubbed
"ALBUM OF THE YEAR (2002) by Chicago Arts & Entertainment,
featuring 15 original songs by Tony Rogers, orchestral
arrangements by John Scholvin, and death-defying instrumental
& vocal performances by members of (of course) The Good,
Frisbie, Poi Dog Pondering, The Me Decade, Pound Foolish,
Down The Line, The Plunging Necklines, The Daniel James
Band, Maggie Speaks, The Barking Mad, Swimmer, Cassius
Clay, and many, many more. The disc has already been
featured on WXRT and WBEZ in Chicago. The recordings
were engineered by longtime Good collaborator Scott
Ramsayer, who also plays piano on the CD.
Visit PopPsychology.com
to watch a trailer for the show, get tickets, buy the
soundtrack, get instant online relationship advice from
Dr. Tony, and oh, so much more. Bring your significant
other or come utterly alone... you will not leave until
you love.
DOWN
THE LINE
If you don't
know it already, you should: Good bassist Dave Rothkopf
is also in a terrific band called Down The Line. We
think they kick ass, and even if we didn't, Performing
Songwriter Magazine says "This is the new wave of college
rock." Down The Line is a lot like a modern day Crosby
Stills & Nash, but with a great bass player who writes
some of their best songs and isn't really allowed to
sing unless the crowd is totally liquored up. (Think
"Crosby Stills Nash & Dave.") They've been packing great
clubs all over Chicago and the midwest, and if you'd
like to jump on the bandwagon, you can find out where
they're playing and buy their debut CD at DownTheLineBand.com.
WRITERS'
BLOCK PARTY: ISSUE ONE
What do The
Good and U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins have in common?
We're both on a new "audio magazine" called Writers'
Block Party, the brainchild of Chicago writer and all-around
good egg, Amy Krouse Rosenthal. It's billed as "the
magazine you can enjoy while driving," but when we tried
we couldn't find the fairway. Our contribution is an
oldie but a Goodie -- "Goodbye If You Die" -- and it
closes the CD. Along the way you'll hear 18 tracks that
will make you laugh, think, dance, and hit the repeat
button. If you'd like to know more about who's on the
record and what's it's all about, visit www.writersblockparty.com.
You can pay $17 for the CD at record and bookstores,
or you can pay us $7 for one of the few copies Amy gave
us in lieu of actual money. Just click here
and we'll make it easy for you.

What's
THE DEAL with Garageband.com?
Garageband.com is a cool
site that lets listeners review music from indie bands. The band
whose track receives the best reviews each quarter wins a $250,000
recording contract and all that goes with it (chicks, addiction,
sudden weight gain, rock bottom, bogus redemption, Behind the Music,
suicide or -- even worse -- milk-toast comeback).
We typically think these
contests are a scam/joke, but we thought it would be fun to read
reviews by other band geeks from all over the world. Well, it really
has been fun, and wouldn't you know it, The Deal scored so well
that Garageband.com made it a "Track of the Day" on April 23, 2001.
So if you like discovering/savaging new music, head over to www.garageband.com.
We'll let you know if we win the quarter million.
Including you,
Good fans (and perhaps a few of our enemies) have visited this site
since the counter had to be reset on September 29, 2003. Thanks
for helping us reach our goal of one million hits by July 1, 2000.
